Fur loss???

Post by Birdsarenotreal »

Hoping for some help here.
My hybrid dwarf hamster, Hazel has fur loss on her lower back/butt. I just noticed while cleaning her cage today.
I’ve been using the same food and bedding since I got her in January (food has been frozen, bedding hasn’t) so idk how she’d get mites.
She’s very aggressive so I can’t handle her or really interact, so that’s why I’m only noticing now. Also haven’t had much ability to just look at her in a while due to being quite unwell.
The issue is I can’t get her to a vet for a while. I’m going to be travelling to another continent in 10 days (and I’m not gonna be around home really before) to have surgery and I won’t really be in the state to take her to the vet when I get back over 2 weeks later…. Is it okay for her to wait a short bit or should I try to find a way to get her in sooner? I could see if my boyfriend could take a day off to bring her into the vet but I’m really not sure how that would work. Also she quite literally cannot be touched without her drawing blood from biting. The “pet sitter” is my 14 year old brother so he can’t bring her in.
Could it be some sort of dietary deficiency or is it most likely mites?
Btw for info
I got her in January from pet smart
She’s teeny tiny (28g)
I’m really not too sure what to do with this situation and some help would be appreciated.
Also if it is mites can it spread to my other pets? I have a baby crested gecko who also lives in my room and I don’t want her getting it too.

I had a ham with fur loss, I switched to Science Selective food and added vitamin drops to his water. Not sure which helped but the fur came back. In my experience, fur loss isn’t often the first sign of mites. But that’s just my experience.
