Is My Hammy Dying????

Post by HammynamedCheese »

My Hamster is around 10 months old and I believe he is sick :(
He is moving slowly and dragging his rear end/hind legs and I don’t know what to do about it! All of the vets in our area are closed right now and I’m really worried because he is eating but has no energy and has trouble walking
Please Help!!! :(

How is he doing? Did he make it through the night?

Keep trying to contact your vet. You will need to take him.

In the mean time:
If he is cold, put him on a heating pad. Not too hot, and make sure he can get off (if he is still active) if he gets too hot. Keep it on low! If it's too hot for your face, it's too hot for your hammy!

It is good that he's eating. Keep giving him food. Is he drinking out of a water bottle?

If he isn't drinking, is would reccomend to mix pellets with baby food for a mush consistency. If you don't have baby food, water will work. Or a small amount of simple syrup to get him to eat this mix.

Move him into a smaller cage. If he is having trouble walking, i would reccomend putting only paper towels down so he can move around easily to water and food.

Keep him comfortable. Give him a hide if he is nervous, but keep the mush, hard food and a water bottle near by and the heating pad under him.

Im wishing you the best of luck and praying he gets better 🩷
No hamsters currently although I love them so much! ♡

He is drinking and seems better today, he is moving better and I suspect he was constipated of something like that because he is no longer dragging his rear end. I am continuing to monitor him throughout the day/night!
Thanks for the tips!
