Update:

It’s been about a week since I transferred her to the Higgins diet again. I’ve been giving her more protein lately as well as some fruits/veggies every few days.
Her stool has for the most part gotten better. Some is fine and normal, and others are moldy, wet, and squishy. :? I grabbed a few poops and put them in a bag into the fridge to take to the vet tmrw for a fecal smear. I think the food mix was definitely contributing to the issue, but I’m not exactly sure what is still making her poo abnormal. Any other suggestions would be great, as well as any help with my homemade food mix in progress! (Running out of food fast so I need to have it made soon)

AngelTheHam wrote: Fri Mar 21, 2025 9:55 pm Angel has had a history of bad poops. I took her to the vet where they said that everything was on the normal range. Her stool is mushy, stinky, and wet, as well as there being hair sticking out sometimes. Now it is still that way, wet to the point that it will stick to things and mold within a few days.
I just got some digestive aids recommended by the vet, so I’ll be giving it to her starting tonight. Any other suggestions?
This started when I gave her too many veggies. I have cut out most fruits and veggies since to make sure. I also don’t give her nuts too often. I do give her my home made food mix. Here is the recipe in case anyone wants to look into that: (numbers are grams. They equal to 2000 grams.)

I also added a mineral block just to make sure she gets enough calcium.

She has a water bottle and water dish. She has a large sand bath that she regularly baths in and pees in.

She is also a big pacer and jumps and climbs all the time. Recently she has been getting a bit more aggressive. Any suggestions? I’m also working on getting a large playpen now so she can get out more. I’m not sure what else to do. This dang lovely hamster gives me so much anxiety lol.
I really would skip the mineral block, I don't think she'll be getting much good out of that and would likely get too much of some things. That could have an effect on an upset stomach. Magnesium and phosphorous can both cause upset and diarrhea at too high doses.

You don't need lab blocks if you do have the right ratios but it's best to do a lot of testing. I think you are on the right track on your other post about the homemade mix.

Alright, thanks! I will take out the mineral block. She barely uses it anyways! I am working on substituting some oil seeds (because she doesn't like some). If you have any recommendations for that, let me know! I will update my food list soon on my homemade food mix topic.:)
