How cold does your house get? I find that the heating in my house is enough for Eric.

Re: how to keep hamsters warm during winter?
Dwarf hamsters are generally quite happy at 65 F.
Tips if you think the house is getting colder that:
- Move the cage away from windows, exterior walls, and doors to the outside. These spots will be colder than the rest of the house.
- Throw some toilet paper in the cage. Hamsters will take this and build a nice cozy nest.
- Make sure there's enough room for a large nest (either a large hideout or enough stable bedding for a sizeable burrow).
- Make sure that anything you add to the outside of the cage, like pillows or blankets, doesn't block ventilation and can't be chewed/pulled inside by the hamster.

I can't see the image but what temp is your house at? Also, I would get one of those standing thermometer to put near the hamster cage so you have a better idea of what the hamster feels.RoboHammyLover wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2023 4:21 pm its getting so cold here and im worrying that the pillows i added to the outside of her lid wont do enough at keeping her warm

Sometimes, I would add pillows between the wall and my hamster cage, to give a bit more insulation from the cold. I would also run a space heater in the room for an hour to two if I thought it might be chilly that night.

Re: how to keep hamsters warm during winter?
I have got one of these really low wattage tube heaters https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hylite-Slimlin ... s,100&th=1 which can be placed near, but not touching, a hamster enclosure. The smallest one is only 28W which will do very little to heat a room (most room heaters are more like 500W to 2000W) but can convect just a little heat to one patch of a hamster's enclosure if placed carefully.
I second the suggestion of getting a Thermopro thermometer. They do a bluetooth one too which has an app to download temperature data so you can see if it's getting too cold at night.
