Thank you RoboHammyLover, also, I think the dirreaha is lessening...but I think the problem originated because she has a problem with her mouth....she acted interested in food last night..but she couldn't eat the millet until I pulled some kernels off for her...and gave her a dish of water.

I'm glad to hear you're able to take Snowey to the vet. Hopefully they will be able to help.

It is reassuring if Snowey hasn't deteriorated or developed new symptoms since yesterday. If it were wet tail he/she would probably be much more ill. It still sounds like something isn't right but hopefully nothing too serious.

Have you tried gently soaking his/her back end in some warm water to try to clean off whatever is on there? Perhaps that might help with the smell and then you will know if there is any new diarrhoea or not.

Is Snowey eating and drinking?

I just saw your latest update. What do you think is wrong with her mouth?

(Snowey is awfully fluffy for a female, by the way! Occasionally you do find females with that much fluff but if you're seeing a vet anyway, I'd ask themt to check the sex)

Thank you for replying Daisy ^^

Just called the vet, and they said they would work us in :D Amazing because they always book two weeks out too 0.0

Anyways, I am not sure what could be wrong with her mouth..I am wondering if her teeth are too long? The first day she was with us she looked like she was chattering or grinding them..?

And I wanted to put her in a bowl and put a little water in for her bottom but my parents thought maybe we should wait and see what the vet says.

I am definitely gonna get the vet to see if Snowey is male or female haha!

Ask the vet if they can check her teeth too. I'm not sure whether tooth issues would cause diarrhoea, but it's always worth checking. Chattering can be a normal vocalisation though.

Good luck at the vets!

Hey Daisy! Thanks for your reply 😊

We went to the vet and they said it looks like wet tail. They gave us antibiotics and recommended a powdered food to mix in water to syringe feed him so Snowey gets the nutrition he needs.

They also said his teeth looked good, but that his mouth smelled bad...so maybe his cheeks are infected too...

His antibiotic should start working in 2 days! Also, they weighed him, and he lost 6 grams 🥺

We already gave him his first dose of meds =>

The vet also said Snowey is a boy 🐹

I'm glad you've managed to get him to see the vets, and I hope the meds help. 🥰
Has he got a follow up appointment booked?
Best of luck with his recovery.

His cheek pouches could be impacted. If you are able to feel along the side of his head and neck, do you feel anything there?

"Wet tail" is most often generic vet-speak for any kind of diarrhoea in a hamster but hopefully the antibiotics will help with whatever it is.

Thanks guys!!

He called the disease Snowey has "tissure disease" I believe.
There is no follow up appointment, just monitering him and if he worsens to bring him bk in.

I am not sure about the cheek pouches ..I am trying not to bother him as much as possible..

They did say that the antibiotics would knock out any cheek infections too :)

I haven't had a chance to log on the past few days, but I've been reading your comments for Snowey and hoping for the best. Be proud that you're taking the proper steps to make sure Snowey has a good life and remains healthy! We're all rooting for him and we're proud of you for being a good hammy parent!
