dusty hamster bedding??

Post by missdottymuffins »

hi! recently was doing a quick spot cleaning and noticed my hammy's bedding has a bit of dust in it. (edit: a LOT of dust in it) probably haven't changed her bedding out for like 4-5+ months, because since i moved her to a detolf she's been peeing in her sandbath. is it normal for paper bedding to get dusty overtime? or is it an issue with the brand? (i use carefresh)

It's not uncommon for paper bedding to have some dusty. but lately it seems like they have been dustier, probably a supply issue.
  • To lessen the dust you can do a couple of things, one is mix with another kind of bedding with the paper such as aspen or a soft hay like hemp.
  • The other more labor intensive thing is to put he bedding in a mesh bag and shake the hack out of it, outside. This knocks quite a bit of dust out of it.
I've tried a few different brands and they all send to have varying levels of dustiness.
