getting a syrian as a dwarf owner

what should i expect? ive only ever owned dwarfs but am (hopefully) rescuing a syrian soon.

Hi! In my experience, syrians (i own a female) have more energy. Not nescessarily that they run faster, but they just never stop wanting to explore. Which leads to them being bored pretty fast! Making boredom breakers fastly became necessary with my syrian female! They're awesome to have though

This one might seem a bit obvious, but a Syrian's going to need more food!
I've never had a dwarf, but Spud is full of energy and loves destroying everything. Be prepared for lots of mess- coco soil will go everywhere, and toilet paper and carboard tubes will be shredded in minutes

Congrats on the possible rescue! I am not a huge help but I got my first ever Male Syrian on March 7th 2023. I actually have only ever had dwarfs too. When I got him I think I was told he is 8 weeks and according to my math he was 10 weeks but on June 27th if I did the math right he will be 6 months aka fully grown. My experience with Houdini aka my male Syrian is he is pretty skittish but he also got lost in my bedroom the first day we got him so now he is scared but overall he is pretty calm. He runs when we come towards him and has hissed at us we are pretty sure but he has never bitten or anything. He mostly eats, drinks water, burrows on one side of his cage and runs on his wheel. He doesn't do much he personally does not like toys or really any chew toys. But will take almost every treat I have given him so far except for this piece of popcorn and a seed waffle. He sometimes goes in his Sandbath but not really definitely not like my other two small hamsters used to so it's quite a different experience but also good at the same time.
