kats book reviews:)

Post by Redkitkats17 »

hi!

i have been reading lots of books lately from my school library and decided that I wanted to start a lil book review journal!

this is also a place for people to:
-recommend books to others
-discuss the books
-have friendly conversations
-talk about pros and cons of books
-discuss genres and writing styles
-give writing tips!

stuff coming soon!!

Book Review #1

Title: girl in pieces
Author: Kathleen glasgow

TW MENTIONS OF SH AND ABUSE

What I liked about the book:
-discussed mental health openly
-showed relationships between characters in a good light
-really described self-injury in a realistic way
-writing was amazing
-details were a great touch
-touching
-felt like "girl interrupted", which I love! I really love that movie a lot.

What I didn't like about the books:
-chapters felt incomplete
-the story at times was hard to follow
-graphic
-lots of language
-descriptions of abuse
-story didn't always make sense
-never picked up pace it was very slow and dragged
-don't know how to feel about the ending, felt not complete, but I think its open to interpretation

Summary:
This book was emotional and touching. Very realistic and the writing was very good! I was expecting more from the book because of its popularity and my biggest complaints is the language and the story being dragged very slowly and the pace never picking up. It was a great book, just the story was hard to follow. The topic was discussed openly which was great, but maybe slightly romanticized. I definitely would caution easily triggered people though. Great writing and details! Never read a book like that before..

discussion encouraged in comments!

Hi Kat! Your book review journal idea sounds absolutely fantastic! It’s such a creative way to combine your love for reading with community engagement.
