What size is your robo enclosure?

Post by Sweat Pea »

Hi all,

I am thinking of getting a robo and wanted to know what size is your enclosure and are they happy in that size enclosure?

I think dwarfs can be happy in 400 square inch bins or glass tanks. I have 425 to 550 square inch large plastic bins and the dwarfs are happy in those. You have enough space in them to put a 6 to 8 inch wheel and a hideout or two and an area for food and water. I also have a glass tank (an Ikea Detolf display case that's on its side) that's about 850-900 square inches. It's narrow but it's larger so it gives a bit more room than the 400-500 inch bins for other things like bridges, extra hideouts, digging area, and tubes. I put the tank on top of an Ikea shelf unit and put the hamster things under the tank.

Niteangel has some enclosures I would like, although they cost a fair bit. I might replace my display case tank with one of these. I also have a 40 litre glass critter cage (550 to 600 square inch?), but I find it difficult to clean because it's tall and only opens at the top. You have to stand on a stepping stool to reach in. The Niteangel enclosure opens at a slant, which would be easier to reach in. I haven't looked up other enclosures, so someone else may have other suggestions. :)

I would personally never go lower than 600 sq inches for a robo. They are very very active, and love the extra room. My boy is in 600 sq inches. Approx. And he is somewhat happy, but I would always reccomend larger. I had him in a 950sq inch, but downgraded him since I got another Syrian. He hasn't been as happy. They are very active and run around like crazy!!!

Yes, I feel bad when I've set up a hammy in my 400-500" bins, but they're 'ok' and still much better than the little cages they sell at pet stores. If you can get a 600+" enclosure, do that! Dwarfs really do run around a lot! They're also much more active throughout the day than Syrians.
