Re: New Syrian is not burrowing

Aww  It's ok! As long as he's happy. :) I've had two Syrians who didn't much like burrowing. They wouldn't really burrow unless I put a tube slanted downward into an empty spot of bedding. Then they _might_ crawl down and make a burrow. I guess they didn't like making tunnels but they'd make bu...

Re: Help taming my new girlie

Yeah, that sounds familiar. Get the treats first and then bite bite bite the hand.

Re: Help taming my new girlie

I'm sorry to say that I can't be of help. :( I've had a few dwarfs, ranging from gentle to biting... I think their individual personalities is the most important thing. My bitey-ist hamster never stopped biting. I honestly think she enjoyed it. I upgraded little miss bitey to a larger enclosure, thi...

Re: Sealing the bottom of a Niteangel Vista cage?

Gah. It's 100% silicone all-purpose sealant. :( I saw both aquarium 100% silicone sealant and all-purpose 100% silicone sealant mentioned on DIY posts, so I thought all-purpose would be fine. I've got a little one in there now.

Re: Sealing the bottom of a Niteangel Vista cage?

After reading Luna123's DIY guide , I bought some 100% silicone sealant and a caulking gun. I went around the bottom of the enclosure and also a few inches up the back. It was a bit messy, so I used a plastic scraper to get rid of some of the excess silicone. I am a little worried that a hamster wil...

Aww :D

Yeah, give her space. Maybe she's tired from being brought to a new place. :)

Re: Baby hamster’s unexpected passing?

My only suggestion is to think about anything differently you did with him than you did with your other hamsters. Different bedding or different food or a different setup? Things like that.

Rest in peace, little Murphy. I'm sorry for your loss. :(

Sealing the bottom of a Niteangel Vista cage?

I finally sprang for a Niteangel Vista cage. I'm putting it together and I stopped when the directions said to put tape at the bottom of the enclosure. I've been reading and some people have said that their hamsters or mice will chew or tear away that tape. Others say that they didn't use the tape a...

Re: Baby hamster’s unexpected passing?

You've had a few hamsters already, so I don't think anything you did caused this. I think it's just that most hamsters aren't bred well and they're also tiny animals. They can come down with illnesses and die really quickly. I've only had a very young hamster (~3 weeks old) once. Every other hamster...
