Re: Robo Hamster Advice?

She is so cute! Robots are known to be very fast, and they often flip over on their wheel because of their speed. Like Kikya said, with time and practice she should get the hang of the wheel. She may just be a bit nervous still since you got her recently. Dwarf hamsters (especially robos) are ...

Re: Robo Hamster Advice?

Hi everyone! It's been a while. I got a roborovski hamster (her name is Penelope and she is 2 months old) about a week and a half ago and I have a few questions since this is not a species I have experience with. Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this, I wasn't sure.
She loves her ...

Hamster Castle!!!

All in centimeters**

First, plug in your hot glue gun or take out your glue
Second, draw the design on cardboard (Multiply by 1.5 for larger syrians)
Third cut out the shapes using scissors for the main parts and a exacto knife for the waves/finer ...

Re: Do platforms count as extra floorspace?

This is a great question!
Honestly, I think that the hamster community needs to stop thinking about everything needing to count as floorspace. Floorspace is meant to be ongoing, so, no, platforms do not count as floorspace. They do count towards more space for enrichment which is what really matters ...

Re: Pee on Wood - Glazes?

You could try sanding pee off wood, I've heard that this can help but I'm not sure if it would work for really bad stains. In the future you could try putting something more waterproof on top on the platform, like a tile or something similar. I hope this helps! :D

Re: Would this be considered enough enrichment?

This is a good cage, but I would probably add a few more hideouts and tunnels. A multichamber hideout (can be made from cardboard) would be great to fill in some of the extra space! :D

Re: Experience With the "Minimum" Cage Size? + Cage Pictures Request!

I am glad to see this thread. I think I'm losing my mind sometimes when interacting with people on other hamster groups. There are a lot of issues with trying to apply the results of that study of female syrians in four different cage sizes to actually properly enriched cages. I have the full text ...

Re: Experience With the "Minimum" Cage Size? + Cage Pictures Request!

I'm going to use centimetre dimensions here because that's what I "think in", but just for reference:
60x40cm = 24x16 inches = 384 square inches
70x40cm= 28x16 inches = 450 square inches approx.
80x50cm = 31x20 inches = 620 square inches approx.
100x50cm = 40x20 inches = 800 square inches

A lot ...
