I am wondering if anybody knows if this coco fibre is safe for hamsters? https://www.petsmart.ca/reptile/substra ... hod=Browse
And if it is safe, I am wondering if anyone has used it before? Is it too much like dirt/soil for your liking? is it better to go with niteangel or zoo-med?

Re: Is this coco fibre brand safe for hamsters?
I'm assuming it's absolutely fine- I tend to use the coco fibre bricks from Pets at Home, which I just submerge in a tub of water to loosen it out, then wait for it to dry (sometimes I leave it a bit damp, as I think Spud prefers it that way). Then I just put it in an old chocolate tin on a platform in her cage.
I also use organic compost (in a large glass jar) for her to roll around in, and this is quite different to coco soil as it has larger/more fibrous chunks.

Looks fine to me. Very similar to the ZooMed. Every few days, I add a bit of distilled water to keep it damp and also fluff it with my hands so the moisture doesn't get trapped and start to mold. Then after a month or two, I throw it out and start fresh, since I haven't really thought of a good way to clean and sanitize it.bella33 wrote: Sat Nov 25, 2023 9:22 pm I am wondering if anybody knows if this coco fibre is safe for hamsters? https://www.petsmart.ca/reptile/substra ... hod=Browse
