They're closely related to tomatillos and are in the nightshade family. I only ask because I cannot find any safe/unsafe foods list that include them. The plants and unripe fruits are definitely unsafe (like tomatoes) but what about the ripe fruit? Has anyone ever tried giving one to a hamster?

I am not 100% but like tomatoes, they do contain solanines, which in large amounts is toxic but it decreases as the tomato ripens. I rarely feed tomatoes but when I do, I blanch them, then I take out the seeds and goop and only give a small amount of the fleshy part. If I'm able, I also peel the skin but if it doesn't come off easily, I leave it.
