Silent Runner Wheel Review

Post by Kikya »

I thought I would write a review of the Silent Runner from Exotic Nutrition.

It comes in different sizes.
Small - 9 inches, 4.25 inches wide
Regular - 12 inches, 4.25 wide
Wide - 12 inches, 5.25 wide

It was the first wheel I bought when keeping hamsters as an adult. When I first got it, I loved it. It was so quiet, all you could hear was the pitter-patter of little feet. I liked it because it was a thinner wheel, not too tall and fit better in my 110qt bin then most other wheels.

I'm not exactly sure when it happened, maybe it was when Mabel got a bit bigger, faster, and more confident on the wheel, but every night, the wheel would come apart and I'd have to put it back together. Basically, what was happening was the tightening screw on the back was coming loose, then the whole wheel would come off the base.

After a while, I found a video that helped me fixed the issue with the Silent Runner coming apart. It's one of the most helpful videos lol

I still think this is a great wheel to use if you have a barred cage. It's a space saver and if you do the hot fix in the video, you won't have any issues with it loosening.

Pros:
Very quiet as promised
Great for hamsters that like a bit of privacy and safety when they run
Easy to use on a stand or as a cage attachment

Cons:
You do have to take it apart when cleaning
You have to put a drop or two of vegetable oil on the axel to keep it quiet once you clean it, you'll wipe off the oil
You may have to buy a cheap hardware part to keep it from falling apart with a fast runner

I no longer use this wheel but if you can't afford a Nite Angel and don't mind doing a tiny cheap fix (really, it is so simple, I could do it!) then this might be a good choice for you.

I 100% agree. I think that the silent runner is the best wheel I have ever used. My first wheel was a comfort wheel, which was SO loud at night. My second was a silent spinner and the wheel piece broke of of the base piece in about 2 weeks. My third was (and is) the 9 inch silent runner. I fits my large dwarf perfectly and fit my tiny syrian perfectly aswell.
