Frozen carrot?
Hi, I’ve been giving carrot and cucumber regularly to Harvey now for a few weeks. The cucumber doesn’t seem to be a problem with storage, but I only seem to get one serving of carrot from a single carrot before the whole thing goes really floppy and horrible when it comes round to using it again. I am wondering if I could cut it into sections and freeze it and possibly get some out when needed and cut it into further sections as it’s defrosting and then feed him The “Middle bit” or something like that? What do people think? Thanks.

Re: Frozen carrot?
Yes, you can. Freezing may reduce the nutrient content to some extent but probably not very significantly (and carrots lose nutrients when they get old and soft too).
As long as you're feeding some fresh veg as well, it's fine to feed frozen defrosted veg. Cucumber is not the most nutritious vegetable to feed as a staple though, I'd recommend green, leafy vegetables a couple of times a week if you can.

Thanks for that
Re: Frozen carrot?
You could, but it would be better to eat carrots yourself and just save a bit of it for him.
If you don't eat carrots, it would be easier to buy commercially frozen veggies (and likely better because they are frozen soon after picking). They are already chopped up and frozen, and you can even get veggie mixes for variety.

Hmmmmm………… all things considered, I think I’m probably best just buying a carrot when I need to feed him carrot! Thanks.….

Re: Frozen carrot?
Yeah, that's an issue. I just buy a carrot and eat it myself before it goes bad. Or just buy carrots for myself and then portion out a few bites for the hammy to eat over the next few days.Paws to the Sky wrote: Sat Nov 18, 2023 4:55 pm Hi, I’ve been giving carrot and cucumber regularly to Harvey now for a few weeks. You could freeze it or dehydrate it, but it does lose some nutrients and kind of defeats the point of feeding fresh. Freezing would be the better of the two.
