Is This a Good Seed Mix?

Post by TinyPaws »

I found a Canadian hamster website that sells a seed mix and I was wondering what your opinion is on it? They are also a ethical hamster breeder and have some informational hamster articles in french :D

Well it's not what I would call a complete mix because you probably need at least 30+ ingredients but it's definitely better than Higgins Sunburst or Vita Garden. I am not the biggest fan when I see chia seeds in a mix since we don't know if they expand in the belly or not but if it's very small amount, it's probably ok. Since the sellers are treating it like a supplement to a diet and not a complete mix, I would probably alternate between this mix and another commercial mix, just to be on the safe side. I'm not sure if they are doing that for a reason.

I would still try this out! It's got more variety than most others. Just be sure to freeze ANY mix you buy for at least 24 hours before you use. I think sometimes I forget to tell people because it's "common knowledge" but obviously it's not common if you aren't being told.

I would be curious to see a review from one of the Canadian members on this mix. If we get a few people vouching for it, maybe we can add it to the list for Canada, it would be the first homemade mix that I've seen that has at least a decent shot at making the list.

Thank you! This was all great information :D
I'm thinking I might want to contact the sellers first to see if they know what the guarenteed analysis is. I think this mixed with one of the Higgins mixes (Vita Garden for dwarves, Sunburst for Syrians) would have lots of variety and wouldn't be too expensive either.
I did check if maybe they had the guarenteed analysis or some other information when using the french version of the website since they only had the articles in french, but I guess not. I think it would be worth contacting the seller with some questions!
